Projects are team designed involving both principals of RLA. Further, RLA maintains a relationship with a network of Civil, Structural, Mechanical and Electrical Engineers who are assembled as a team for projects requiring a special composition of design professionals.

RLA Architects is one of the most experienced firms in the region and have completed an array of exciting projects. The type of work includes: Project Feasibility Studies, Master Planning, Community Planning, Custom Homes, Remodels, Expansions, Renovations, Historic Restoration, Fire Recovery, Interior Design, Construction Management and Full Design and Development of Ranch Properties.
HIGH PERFORMANCE ARCHITECTURE
For decades RLA has been designing buildings that utilize high quality materials and system components as well as being beautiful. We have completed commercial LEED third-party certified buildings like the Alpine Bank in Telluride (Silver) and certified “Built Green Colorado” residential projects at the Durango Glacier Club and around the region. In addition to being a very efficient home it also won the primary first place awards in the recent Parade Of Homes. That home received: Judges Selection for “Best Master Suite” – First Place , Judges Selection for “Best Kitchen” – First Place and, Overall “Peoples Choice” category - First Place Other project have passive and active PV and Thermal solar systems, recycled and certified lumber and green living roofs. We always specify the use of low or no VOC paints, coatings and adhesives. The Glacier Club home, achieved Energy Star, Built Green Colorado, Builder’s Challenge (DOE), HERS 70. Another Home at Deer Island Preserve; Energy Star, NAHB Green Building Gold Level (1st in SW Col.) HERS 69. The V-G home at Elk Stream Ranch (only 1700 SF living area) has achieved the NAHB Green Building Gold Level, Energy Star, Builder’s Challenge;EPA Indoor Air Plus, HERS 61.

Net Zero Home
This in-town home has a third party certification; HERS -1, a Net Zero Home and a 5+ Energy Star (highest rating achievable). Passive Solar, 8KW PV Solar and 430,000 BTU/day Thermal Solar system. FSC wood products throughout. The home has a vegitated roof, an accoustically decoupled music studio and solar heated swimming pool and spa.
